Clinical Studies of 246 Hospitalized Burn Patients



Abstract
A total of 246 burn patients who were admitted in surgical department of Kyung-Hee Medical Center during the past 5 years, from Nov. 1971 to Oct. 1976 were clinically reviewed The following results were obtained
1. The age and sex incidence of burn patients revealed a great prevalence in male and the most abundant group.. of age under 9 years with a ratio of 1.54 male to 1 female.
2. Seasonal influance was more frequent in summer than in others
3. Most causes of burning were scalding (55.3%) and flame (38.6%)
4. The age group of scalding burn was predominent under the age of 9
5. Most of patients were lesser affected than 50% extent of burn; 135 patients (54.9%) were in 11 to 30% extent of burn
6. The main organisms in wound culture was pseudomonas aeruginosa (43.2%)
7. The skin graft was performed in 62 burn cases (25.2%) it was almost split thicknessfree skin graft using. Brown dermatome about 0.01^0.015 inch in thickness
8. The main complications were infection (33.3%), pneumonia (7 7%), G-U infection (6.8%) and renal shut down (5.3%) frequency in order.
9. Mortality was 15.2% in burn patients and causes of death were septicemia (30.7%), renal shutdown (20.5%) and pulmonary complications (17.9%) frequency in order
